President Trump on Oversight and Government Reform

President Trump's advice to me: "You have a job to do. You do oversight. Don’t slow down. You go after everything you want to go after. You look at everything you want to look at.”  Watch the clip:

Legislative priorities for Utah and the nation

Moving forward, I look forward to working with a new Congress and a new administration on the priorities that matter most to my constituents.

I will work to repeal the Bears Ears monument designation, transfer authority and funding for law enforcement on public lands to county sheriffs, repeal and replace Obamacare, and bring more local control back to Utah.  I will continue to prioritize fiscal measures, criminal justice reform, and privacy legislation.

On the Oversight & Government Reform Committee, I look to tackle civil service reform, federal pension reform, postal reform and to crack down on sexual harassment in the federal workforce.  I spoke about our agenda on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo:

January on the House Floor

Several major reforms passed on the House Floor in January with my support.  The REINS Act (HB 26) requires Congressional approval for regulations with an economic impact above $100 million.  I co-sponsored this bill in the House and Sen. Mike Lee sponsored the Senate version. In addition, voted for H.R. 5, the Regulatory Accountability Act.

H.J.Res. 38 disapproved the Stream Protection Rule submitted by President Obama's Department of Interior.  The original rule imperiled thousands of mining-related jobs and cost millions for compliance.  It lacked transparency and did not consider input from state regulators.  My vote gets us a step closer to overturning the rule.

We eliminated taxpayer funding for abortion with H.R. 7 - the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act.  I was a co-sponsor on this legislation.

I was also proud to co-sponsor and vote for H.Res. 11 - Objecting to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 as an obstacle to Israeli-Palestinian Peace.

Salt Lake County Town Hall Meeting February 9

I invite my constituents to please join me on Thursday, February 9, for a 7:00 pm town hall meeting.  The meeting was originally scheduled at Cottonwood Heights City Hall, but will be moved across the street to the Brighton High School auditorium (2220 Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights) to accommodate the many people who have expressed interest in attending.  I look forward to answering your questions.

Does every federal agency need to be in Washington, DC?

Because I believe government needs to be closer to the people it regulates, I recently proposed a resolution expressing Congressional support for the relocation of federal agencies away from Washington, DC.  See my explanation for the bill here:

Utah at the Inauguration of President Trump

Many Utahns were on hand to participate in the Inauguration ceremonies for President Trump earlier this month.  Our Utah delegation hosted a reception in the House Oversight Committee hearing room to meet with constituents.  Utahns expressed optimism about the excellent cabinet choices President Trump has made thus far.  I look forward to working with the administration to promote Utah's interests.
