Internships
In my Washington, D.C. and district offices, internships are available during the fall, winter, spring, or summer semesters for college students. Interns' responsibilities will vary depending on the office in which they work. Most internships are coordinated through a college intern program. All interns can expect to be asked to answer phones, write letters, and research the status of bills. Interns in Washington, DC may also give tours, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend meetings, hearings and briefings.
Interns in the District offices may also be asked to attend outreach meetings in the community and assist in helping constituents who are having problems with a federal agency. Interns will learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. Typically, intern applicants will apply through their respective schools and will be asked to submit a resume, two writing samples demonstrating their ability to communicate through written word clearly and succinctly, and a letter of recommendation. If you would like more information on Congressional Internships please contact my DC office (202) 225-7751.
