Washington, DC- Four Members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform sent a letter today to the Director of the Census Bureau expressing significant concerns that the Bureau is hiring workers who may have criminal backgrounds to conduct the 2010 census.  The Congressmen, who serve on the subcommittee which oversees the Census Bureau, sent the letter in response to Director Robert Groves’ testimony at a hearing last week.

The Congressmen questioned whether the American people would have the necessary trust and confidence in the integrity of the Census if they knew former criminals were helping to administer it.  They also requested a written copy of the guidelines the Bureau uses to determine risk in evaluating an applicant’s criminal record.
